So Apple fans that are diehard Apple and love the Apple brand, Apple has finally dropped its long awaited iPhone 13. There is one thing different about this new iPhone drop and its that the lines and waiting outside of the Apple store are no longer existent due to Covid19. Most people are huddled up at home or in the offices and doing what seems to be the new way to get products, and that is to pre-order online. Yes, the Apple, AT&T, and T-Mobile stores are open, but consumers are using these outlets as a last resort. Ordering online has become the “way how to do business” with Apple allowing more consumers to pre-order their phones.
With the upgrade every year program that Apple has launched, it seems as if everyone can’t wait to drop their 12-month-old phones to get the latest and greatest. In the days of Steve Jobs, it was a lot of waiting around for 1-3 years before an Apple product was released, but those days are no more. Apple execs have since thrown caution to the wind and are rolling out iPhone yearly with not much push back. Apple developers have really been stepping up to the call by re-engineering the iPhone to bring the users such a great experience.
Now that we have wrapped up the history, lets dive right into the details of why this article came about. The juicy details of the iPhone 13. On September 14th, 2021, Apple announced the released of their latest flagship and the date of release is for September 24th, 2021. Already Apple fans are placing pre-orders and flooding the silicon valley tech mobile company with orders for every carrier available. The rush in past years for Apple users to get the latest and greatest has sometimes forced Apple to have delays of 2-3 months to receive the new device. Many Apple fans don’t mind the wait as it cuts out previous years where they had to stand in line for hours just to get a “come back because we are sold out” or “we don’t have the size or model you are looking for”. Online pre-orders are the way to go when trying to get the latest coveted phone.
The Apple event this year was largely anticipated now that everyone has the ability to get back into production and the workforce is back on. The next thing is how can I get the latest and greatest, which Apple with the iPhone 13 is ready to provide. Before we dive into any software upgrades, let’s start with the outside look and feel of the iPhone 13. The model lineup for the iPhone 13 are as follows:
iPhone 13 mini
iPhone 13
iPhone 13 Pro
iPhone 13 Pro Max
iPhone 13 Mini
Each phone comes with its own intricate details, design, and purpose. With that being said, let’s start with the iPhone 13 mini. The iPhone 13 mini the smallest in the mix and packs just as much a punch as the others. First of is the storage. Due to the size of this phone, it goes from 128GB to 512GB as the maximum storage size. Screen size on the mini is 5.4 inches. From the mini to the Pro max, all of them are run on the famed A15 Bionic. The weight on this phone is 4.97 ounces. The colors available for this smaller phone is Red, Starlight, Midnight, Blue, and Pink. All phones also come water resistant with a water-resistant rating of IP68. The battery life expectancy on this device is 8 hours and 41 minutes. Both the front and rear cameras come as 12MP (True Depth) cameras but does not come with the 5X digital zoom. Apple’s design of small and going back to basics is hoping that this will be a hit with the crowd to keep pumping out this smaller device. The asking price for the iPhone 13 Mini is $699 USD.
iPhone 13
Next in line is the iPhone 13 which is a lot similar to the iPhone 13 Mini. This model comes with storage sizes of 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. The screen size on the iPhone 13 is 6.1 inches with resolution of 2532x11740/640. This phone comes with the A15 Bionic processor, dual 12MP camera, and weights about 6.14 oz. Like all the other iPhone 13 models, its all about the A15 chipset which allows the phone to do cinematic mode that includes changing the photographic styles of your pictures and video. The colors available for this device are Red, Starlight, Midnight, Blue, and Pink. The battery life on this device is up to 10 hours and 33 min on a single charge. The starting price for the iPhone 13 is $799 for the 128 GB and goes up from there depending on the size of the storage.
iPhone 13 Pro
The iPhone 13 Pro falls in line with its previous predecessors in terms of size, but with the quality it beats the iPhone 12 Pro by far. Again, packing the A15 chipset as with all the new iPhone 13’s it is capable of doing so much more. The screen size with the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 is the same, except some intricate details. One of those details is the ability to do adaptive refresh. You may ask what the heck is “adaptive refresh”? To put it simply it’s the rate at which a device refreshes the screen to provide motion. The less adaptive refresh rates a screen has, the less ability it has to show true motion of an object or even a movie. The iPhone 13 mini nor the iPhone 13 have this built into the system. Only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Plus come with this feature. This is where Apple starts to pack in its differences and makes their flagship phones, the head of the line. The iPhone 13 Pro is sold with 4 different storage capacities. They are the 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, and the 1 TB. The screen is similar to the iPhone 13 where both have the 6.1-inch screen size. The adaptive refresh as mentioned earlier goes up to 120Hz. The zoom on this model comes with 3x optical/15x digital. The weight of this phone is 7.2 oz and has a battery life of 11 hours and 42 min on a full charge. The differentiators in the flag ship iPhones don’t stop there. Apple has gone even further by giving them different colors. The iPhone 13 Pro comes in Graphite, Gold, Silver, and Sierra Blue. These colors are only reserved for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The starting price for the iPhone 13 Pro is $999 for the 128 GB and goes up from there depending on the storage.
iPhone 13 Pro Max
This iPhone is the top of the line when it comes to the iPhone 13 models. This phone comes with all the features of the iPhone 13 Pro, but on a bigger level. Most things stay the same as it does have the same A15 Bionic chipset. It also comes with the Adaptive Refresh at 120Hz, the same zoom of 3x optical/15x digital, 12MP TrueDepth on the Front Camera. The colors on this device are the same as the Pro version which are Graphite, Gold, Silver, and Sierra Blue. The differences between the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max come in the screen size. The screen on the iPhone 13 Pro Max comes at 6.7 inches versus on the Pro, is only 6.1 inches. The resolution on the iPhone 13 Pro Max is higher than the Pro. The Pro comes in at 2532 x 1170/460 and the Pro Max comes in at 2778 x 1284/458. All the iPhone 13 models come water resistant with the water-resistant rating of IP68. Bear in mind water resistant is not waterproof. This means it can get wet, but it can’t stay submerged in water for long period of time, or it will get damaged. The battery life on the iPhone 13 Pro Max is a bit longer than the Pro, where it goes for 12 hours and 16 min a single full charge. The starting price for the iPhone 13 Pro Max is $1,099 for the 128 Gb and goes up from there.
All the iPhone 13 models come prepped and ready with Apple’s latest operating system. By now most people have already upgraded by having the “auto-update” on your iPhone set. For those that have opted not to upgrade yet or don’t have the “auto-update” on your phone, there some key features of iOS 15 that will certainly entice you. Don’t think we were going to stop our review of the iPhone 13 at just the hardware. Nope, we have to include the software too.
iOS 15
If you haven’t noticed, iOS 15 is a whole new mock-up of the iPhone operating system. The look and feel is different and more enhanced then ever before. So let’s dive right in and go down the line up of different features to look forward to on your brand spanking new operating system.
FaceTime
Our first stop is with FaceTime. So for years, FaceTime has been locked down to Apple to Apple devices. Androids would use all the other 3rd party apps to do video calling with no proprietary video calling feature. Apple has cornered the market with their FaceTime brand and still allowing the use of other 3rd party applications that Android users are familiar with. With iOS 15, the barrier has been broken. Apple now allows users to invite Android users to a FaceTime call. That right, so Android users do not need an iPhone to enjoy the benefits of FaceTime with an Apple user. This is another way Apple has decided to break down their barriers and be more fluid with the market. The new microphone features with this operating system also allow the audio filtering of noise to be done seamlessly. Including the ability for the microphone to sense where the speaker is positioned.
Safari
Safari gets a new makeover in iOS 15 where the controls and maneuvering is made easier. This includes the tab and address bar being at the bottom of the screen as opposed to the top where it has been since the first iOS system was introduced. Safari now has the ability to add in web extensions and a more customizable start page for user to enjoy. If users wish to have the address bar moved back to the top of the screen, they have that option in the Safari settings. Tabs now can be done in landscape along with website tinting. Website tinting allows the background of the screen to blend in as much as possible to the colors of the website making the website easier to navigate. The customizable start page allows users to choose their background the start page, the favorites listed, if they want to start in private mode, and if they want to have the tabs included. For security, the intelligent tracking option is there to prevent websites from tracking your web activity and making advertisement recommendations or to build a profile on the user. Now Apple users have those controls available in iOS 15.
Maps
Maps gets a more realistic feel by the addition of landmarks and the design plus feel for Maps gives a more realistic 3D view of the land. The 3 dimensional driving experience allows more details on buildings, crosswalks, bridges, landmarks, and even allows it to move along with the transit system. This means that it lets riders know when to disembark the public transportation they are using, whether it is a train or a bus. Even walking around with Maps is easier by just holding up the phone and it can give the user a detailed walking experience step by step the same as if driving, except this is with an augmented reality that the users can focus on the directions without having to try to figure out where they are.
Apple Wallet
Everyone has been hearing about Apple adding digital car keys to its wallet feature. Now with the release of iOS 15, BMW has been the first to step to the marker by taking keyless entry and sharing of car keys to another level. This feature allows user to unlock and start their vehicle without taking the iPhone out of their pocket. The stored keys of the Apple Wallet can also be used to open a home, office, or hotel room. The next step in this improved wallet is for the storing of State IDs. Apple is currently working with stat officials to start this digital ID roll out. The first place they are seeking to start this rollout is at the airports through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
While there are so many other features that have been packed into the iOS 15, that we cant list them all, major updates have been done to their privacy and security features, notes app, weather app, find my iPhone (even when phone is turned off, lost, or erased), live translate feature that allows translation in real-time, and upgrades to Siri to enhance the Apple assistant feature.
